istanbul pit straight

It has been reported by the Turkish media that the Turkish Grand Prix, held at Istanbul Park, is to miss out on a race in 2012 as Turkish Officials have suffered a disagreement with Bernie Ecclestone. The disagreement is over payment, Bernie has asked for twice as much from next year $26 Million.

Whether either side is bluffing and will give in remains to be seen, there is plenty of time for things to be ironed out of course, if there is no race in 2012 though there is no reason to suppose that it will be any different in 2013 and this may well suit Bernie. A Russian race in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi will serve the same region that Istanbul currently does and this race is set to begin in 2014. With 20 races per year a maximum according to Bernie Ecclestone then Turkey making way for Russia is an obvious choice.

We would imagine that this story will develop over the Turkish Grand Prix weekend this year, 6-8 of May, if the Istanbul Park circuit is lost from the calendar it will be missed, especially turn 8.
